My Search for Home

Updated: Feb 5, 2020

There is something about being home

that finally feels right.

It's a different vibe, man.

Can't explain it.

The people are the same,

But there is a different energy.

It just feels right.

I look up and around at the landscape

Which has changed ever so slightly;

But it's all still pretty much the same.

Is it home or is it me who changed?

A place I have called home but never quite felt like I could live here.

When I left over a decade ago

I thought I would never return.

I went as far as I could go then

With no intention of returning

'Oh no, I would never live here'.

Never gave the place nor its people a chance.

Thought to myself

"the world is too big for me to stay in one place,

especially this place"

So, I moved to faraway lands,

And travelled with such intent,

Like I was running from something.

I thought it was home that I was running away from;

A world that seemed too small to hold me.

Turns out everywhere I ended up,

It was home that I was searching for.

My Short, yet life changing, stint in Lusaka, Zambia. My own Out of Africa experience just without Robert Redford and Meryl Street (and yes I know OoA was actually based in Kenya)

Loved this...well written and super relatable. Would be awesome to read about your stay in Zambia...hopefully you can write something about your time there one day 😊
