The Sadness In My Eyes

There are moments when I can't hide it
The sadness in my eyes
Eyes that watch the world and can't forget
No matter how hard I try, fight and struggle
It surfaces
Needing to be acknowledged
Wanting attention, ignoring all my attempts
To ignore, numb and avoid
It surfaces
Regardless of day, occassion or time
(2pm coffee date with a friend, mid-laugh, it rears its head)
(Reading a book on a Saturday morning, it settles in for the weekend)
(1am tossing and turning, it chases sleep away)
There is a sadness in my eyes
That betrays the pain in my heart
The heaviness
That tells me my melancholia has come
Rolled in with the clouds
Dreary and gloomy
Come to collect the rent
There is no hiding place
Welcome melancholia!
Shall I sit with you? Make you a cup of tea?
Ask why you've come (again)?
